HSS390   Catalan Advanced: Language and Culture I   (10 credits)

Description

Language work moves to advanced study of Catalan syntax and extends spoken and written expressive competence. Normativisation of the language in the early 20th century provides a focus for treatment both of linguistic and of politico-cultural matters. Representative literary samples from the modern period serve to illustrate the main trends in pre-Civil-War Catalan writing.
